About Our Founder/CEO
Dr. Akecia Owens-Cunningham saw a problem and developed a solution. As an educator for over twenty years, she is well-versed in the needs of students and educators. She understands the values and resources that education has to offer, but she also recognizes the concerns that many express in terms of searching for student-based learning. It is why she founded Academically Victorious Consulting- to ensure both educators and students can seek favorable outcomes in and out of the classroom.
As an educator, Akecia has served as a Certified Gifted Math and Science teacher on the Middle School level, responsible for educating countless student so she is well aware of the challenges teachers face today. After teaching for thirteen years, she transitioned into the role of Academic Coach, where she has served for five years, and currently serve as a Professional Learning Facilitator. This has allowed her to see firsthand the needs of teachers and support personnel. It has also given her the opportunity to serve as a liaison between administration and teachers and teachers and parents. Akecia has positioned herself to examine education from all sides, which has given her full access to the industry of education. This lens led her to birth Academically Victorious Consulting and it is through this firm that she hopes to bring long term change to individuals as well as to a collective body of teachers, parents and students who are ready to be active agents in their educational future.
Akecia has always been dedicated to the mission of positively influencing young people. She founded the InStep Ministry at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, where she holds lifetime membership, in 1998. This organization serves over one hundred boys and girls who are not only dedicated to stepping, but who also participate in missions as well as team-building exercises. Most recently, Akecia founded G.L.O.W., a mission based organization for youth in order to promote the importance of community service.
In addition, Akecia received her formal training at Georgia State University where she received her Bachelor of Business Administration, Troy State University where she received her Masters in Education, Counseling and Psychology and Walden University where she received her Educational Specialists and Doctorate degree in Teacher Leadership. Akecia holds a number of professional certifications including an Independent Certification as a Coach, Trainer and Speaker for the John Maxwell Team, and a Professional Coach Certification from the Academy of Creative Coaching.
While Akecia is passionate about her work in education and values her roles in the workplace and in the church, she is most honored to serve as a wife and mother. Through her family, she is reminded daily that God’s promises are always “Yea and Amen.”
